Audi Car Keys — Replacement, Spare & Programming

Audi keys have changed considerably across different generations, from traditional transponder keys on older vehicles to remote keys, different fob designs and proximity or keyless systems on newer models.

Whether you need spare-key programming or a replacement after the original has been lost, the model year and registration help identify what is required. We check the vehicle first and then confirm which Audi key cutting, replacement or programming options are available for your specific model.

Arranging a spare while a working key remains, replacing a damaged or unreliable key, and dealing with an all-keys-lost situation are different jobs. On supported vehicles, arranging a spare car key before the remaining key is lost can avoid an all-keys-lost situation, although the work required still depends on the Audi.

If an Audi key is lost or stolen, send us the registration, model and year if known, whether any working keys remain, and where the vehicle is parked. For supported vehicles, we can then advise which replacement-key options are available through our Lost Car Keys service.

Where the particular vehicle and system support it, missing keys may be removable from the keys recognised by the vehicle when replacement keys are programmed. This is not possible on every Audi, so it is checked before the job is confirmed.

Audi key systems differ by model, generation and year. That is why we ask for the registration, the type of key required and whether a working key remains before confirming the work. This lets us give a clear answer and avoids promising support that does not apply to the individual vehicle.

Audi and Volkswagen form part of the wider Volkswagen Group and there are relationships between technologies used across different vehicles. Key and security systems can still differ considerably by model, generation and year, so support for Volkswagen car keys does not automatically establish support for an Audi.

The same applies in reverse: group membership does not make Audi keys, remotes or immobiliser components interchangeable with those of Volkswagen, SEAT or Škoda vehicles, even where the fobs look similar.
